After weeks of anticipation, the Tesla truck was unveiled yesterday and, well, it’s not exactly as most people were expecting. Dubbed the Tesla Cybertruck, the concept looks like a cross between Back to the Future’s Delorean and the “futuristic” cars of Total Recall.

The Telsa Cybertruck will offer up to 3500lbs payload capacity.

Elon Musk and the Tesla team have some pretty big ambitions for the Cybertruck. The truck will feature an Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin and Tesla armor glass for “ultimate durability and passenger protection.” A polymer-layered composite will help absorb and redirect impact force for added safety.

Tesla claims the Cybertruck can go from 0-60mph in under 3 seconds and, depending on the motor choice, has a range of up to 500 miles. At this time, buyers have a choice of a Single Motor RWD Dual Motor AWD, or Tri Motor AWD version. These models are priced at US$39,900, $49,900, and $69,900 respectively. Full-Self Driving can be added on to any model for an additional $7,000.

Some of the key features of the Tesla Cybertruck include:

  • Up to 3,500 lbs payload capacity
  • 100 cubic feet exterior, lockable storage
  • Up to 14,000 lbs towing capacity
  • Raise or lower the suspension by 4″
  • Self-levelling adaptive air suspension
  • Seats six with second row under-seat storage
  • Advanced 17″ touchscreen
  • On-board power and compressed air
  • All-electric design
  • Up to 16″ ground clearance

I can tell you straight up, specifications aside, as a truck owner, I’m not too keen on the design of the Tesla Cybertruck. Hopefully, it will go through some design iterations before it hits production in 2021 and releases in 2020.
