Rise Of The Urban Fashion

Because of the steady rise of hip-hop culture in past years, its fashion as well as its unique sense of style have greatly influenced the world. It was in the late 1990s that several brands of hip-hop clothing lines have said to brought the hip-hop culture into the mainstream that eventually led in a multi-million dollar hip hop fashion industry. These brands of clothing lines are FUBU, Karl Kani, and Sean John Clothing. FUBU FUBU is a clothing company. It includes casual wear, sports wear, a suit collection, eyewear, belts, and shoes. The name is a backronym for “For Us, By Us”, indicating that the product line was produced by black Americans for a primarily black American market. The FUBU collection consists of T-shirts, rugby shirts, hockey and football jerseys, baseball caps, shoes and denim jeans. All are embroidered with the FUBU logo. Most of the products, such as the jeans, are imported from around the world. FUBU has now expanded to include various lines such as Platinum FUBU, FUBU footwear for men and women, intimate apparel, active wear, swimwear, watches, FUBU suits, and FUBU tuxedos. The Platinum FUBU collection also includes the Fat Albert and Harlem Globetrotters clothing lines. Karl Kani Karl Kani was launched in 1989 as a fashion forward and Hip Hop influenced clothing line. Inspired by his passion for Hip hop music and fashion, Karl designed clothes that appealed to a large public, including friends and celebrities from his hometown Brooklyn, New York. Kani is known as one of the most influential black designers of urban fashion in the United States. With such acclaimed success Black Enterprise Magazine named Karl Kani-Infinity Corporation the most successful African American owned firms worldwide in 1996. And this was just the tip of the iceberg. In 2002 Carl was honored with an ‘Urban Fashion Pioneer Award’ for his lifetime achievements during the Urban Fashion Awards. Sean John Sean John Clothing Inc is a clothing and fragrance line owned by hip-hop mogul Sean John Combs and supermarket mogul Ron Burkle. The apparel company takes its name from Combs’ first and middle given names. Since its launch, Sean John has enjoyed critical and commercial success with revenues now exceeding $100 million annually. Through the support of both the fashion community and retailers, Sean John has quickly grown from an urban label to an international brand. Other Popular Brands Other than the said brands, other brands have also risen from the popularity and huge demand for new hip-hop and urban clothing lines.
